WE DID IT!
Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this first Fittleworth 5k such a successful event. Thank you to all our marshalls, helpers on registration and those preparing and serving tea and cake!
It was a slightly brisk May morning but it was dry and bright and people were in good spirits! Thank you to Mr Bloomfield for starting the race for the 84 participants.
Hal Edgar was the first across the line in an incredible 19.28 which has set the bar high as a course record for now! Clearly he was the first U15 boy and still only 12 years old.
In second place was Jason Burkinshaw also with an impressive run of 20.01 and our first adult male. First female went to Natalie Wettler who sped round in 22.30.
In the top 12 male places 5 of the men impressively were in the over 55 category.
Other notable times were Jessica Overton-Smith who had just turned 11 this week and Oliver Chadwell running together and taking the first U15 girls and U11 boys places in 24.53 and 25.04. 10th and 11th overall.
First U11 girl went to Hattie McTeer who made it look easy peasy in an excellent time of 29.03.
The U9 boys title went to Ted Carter who at age 7 whizzed round the hilly course and achieved an outstanding 13th place overall and a time of 26.24.
U9 girls went to his little sister and tiny runner Nell Carter age 5. Congratulations Nell!
First school dad home was Andy Pillans running with son Joel, just pipping Dave Barrett to the line.
First school mum to finish was Sarah Sheldon a hidden talent and a fabulous time of 26.53.
It was so lovely to see so many families, friends, adults, children and teens outside in our beautiful countryside smiling and gritting their way around the challenging course. Well done to those who simply came to walk their dogs or to just walk the route and enjoy the atmosphere. Mini shout out out to Chris Welfare here.
Most people came back to the school for a well earned cake and cup of tea where we congratulated the winners and gave prizes.
